ORE Part 1 online question bank via OREPass · ORE Part 2 hands-on clinical training at our Birmingham surgery · LDS preparation — everything an overseas dentist needs to gain GDC registration, in one place.
ORE Part 1 is the first hurdle to GDC registration for overseas dentists. It is a 200-question MCQ paper covering eight core domains of dental and medical science — and passing it is mandatory before you can sit the clinical Part 2.
The GDC's Overseas Registration Examination Part 1 is a computer-based multiple-choice paper sat at Pearson VUE centres across the UK. It tests knowledge across eight scientific and clinical domains with Single Best Answer (SBA) questions — each with five options.
There is no negative marking. The pass mark is 70%. The exam is held twice a year, typically in March and September. Most candidates require 3–6 months of dedicated preparation to reach the required standard.
As an official OREPass partner practice, The Yardley Clinic provides ORE Part 2 clinical training to the standardised OREPass curriculum — covering every station type the GDC examiners will assess.
The ORE Part 2 is a clinical OSCE — you cannot pass it from a textbook alone. Candidates come to us to build the hands-on technique, communication skills and exam-room confidence that determines the result.
At The Yardley Clinic, training happens in our fully-equipped private surgeries — the same environment our practitioners use every day. You work on dental mannequins, observe and assist in live patient procedures, and receive real-time feedback from GDC-registered dentists who know exactly what the examiners are looking for.
We keep our training groups deliberately small — maximum four candidates per session — so every candidate receives individual attention, honest feedback and the confidence they need to pass.
Structured extra-oral and intra-oral examination, lymph node assessment, TMJ examination, soft tissue screening and dental charting to UK standards.
Comprehensive treatment planning for complex cases — prioritising care, risk assessment, evidence-based decision making and presenting options to patients.
Cavity preparation and composite/amalgam placement on mannequin teeth, shade selection, matrix systems, finishing and polishing — with observation of live restorations.
Inferior alveolar nerve block, buccal infiltration, palatal injection and mental nerve block technique. Aspiration, cartridge loading and management of adverse reactions.
UK radiation regulations (IR(ME)R & IRR17), periapical and bitewing interpretation, CBCT awareness, film mounting and systematic radiographic assessment.
Recognition and management of anaphylaxis, syncope, angina, asthma attack, hypoglycaemia and epilepsy in the dental setting. Drug protocols and CPR refresher.
Basic Periodontal Examination (BPE), periodontal charting, probing technique, furcation assessment and treatment planning for mild, moderate and severe periodontitis.
UK consent law (Montgomery ruling), explaining treatment options, managing anxious patients, writing clinical notes to standard and professional communication with colleagues.
HTM 01-05 compliance, instrument decontamination, cross-infection control, PPE protocols and CQC standards as they apply to the GDC examination framework.
Training at an active private clinic means exposure to real cases. Alongside mannequin practice, candidates observe and assist with a wide range of procedures performed by our GDC-registered dentists.

The LDS (Licentiate in Dental Surgery) is an alternative route to GDC registration offered by the Royal Colleges. The Yardley Clinic provides clinical preparation for the LDS examination, following the same hands-on format as our ORE Part 2 programme.
The Licentiate in Dental Surgery is a clinical qualification awarded by the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS Eng) and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCS Ed). It is accepted by the GDC as a route to registration for overseas-qualified dentists.
The LDS examination includes a clinical component that assesses the same core competencies as the ORE Part 2 OSCE — including clinical examination, treatment planning, practical skills and patient communication.
The Yardley Clinic is an approved host employer for the Level 3 Dental Nurse Apprenticeship. This is a fully NHS-funded programme — no course fees — and candidates train in our clinic while working towards the NEBDN National Diploma in Dental Nursing.
Dental nursing apprentices work alongside our dental professionals throughout their training, gaining real-world clinical experience that fully prepares them for registration with the GDC as a qualified Dental Nurse.
The programme follows the Level 3 Dental Nurse Apprenticeship Standard approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships & Technical Education.
Apprentices train in our active private practice — covering all dental procedures, infection control, radiography and patient care.
Off-the-job training hours are incorporated into the working week, covering theory, assessments and NEBDN portfolio requirements.
On completion, graduates are fully prepared to apply for GDC registration as a Dental Nurse — opening the door to a career in UK dentistry.
Complete the form below and our training coordinator will be in touch within one working day to discuss your requirements and recommend the right programme for your stage of preparation.
